Community Performer (Philadelphia)
Aya Razzaz is a Philadelphia based performance artist, dancer and choreographer. The multimedia performances she creates focus on cultural identity, particularly of Syrian and Palestinian communities, as well as their, and her own, history with displacement. Aya began dancing in Amman, Jordan, doing dance therapy work with Syrian refugees at Badr Physical Therapy Center; working with them to rebuild a positive relationship with their bodies. In 2014 Aya went to Hampshire college in Western Massachusetts where she studied contemporary, contact improvisation and West African dance forms. Asides from creating her own work, Aya is thrilled to be performing with like-minded, inspiring choreographers and dancers of color such as Rosy Simas.
