Sam Aros Mitchell’s research focuses on the transformative work of First Nations and Native American dance and theatre artists, who continue to break boundaries, connect land to body, and bring Native communities to a place of healing.

Sam Aros Mitchell is Yaqui (enrolled Texas Band of Yaqui Indians). Sam earned his MFA in Dance Theatre from UC San Diego (Kumeyaay territory), and a BFA in Dance from UC Santa Barbara (Chumash territory). Sam has performed and taught professionally for over 25 years. He continues to work, teach, and learn, from within his Yaqui community, from within Native American and First Nations communities, and from within contemporary dance communities. He is currently in his fourth year of a performance studies PhD program at UC San Diego. sammitchelldance.com/
