Community Performer (Philadelphia)
Mehgan Abdel-Moneim is a dance artist currently based in Philadelphia who is motivated by work that explores and celebrates individual experience in conversation with community. Mehgan earned her Bachelor's degree in Social Science from Bard College, where she also studied dance technique and composition. She conducted research on racial and ethnic categories on the U.S. Census and the implications of adding a new identifier for people of Middle Eastern and North African descent. She has performed in restaged works by Trisha Brown under the direction of Tara Lorenzen, collaborated with 145 East of Calcutta, and was selected as an artist for the Secret City Arts Festival in Kingston, NY to perform original work devised with Isabella Yannoni. She is currently working on a film project with Sheila Zagar, and is a member of Burgundy Blue dance company in its first season.
